Hide yo wife! Hide yo kids! There are so many bicycle events in our fair city this weekend, it would seem that the San Francisco Bikepocalypse is upon us! We’ve done our research and recommend the best three events, after the jump:
- San Francisco Bicycle Film Festival 2011. Calling all car-free cinephiles! A NYC bicyclist who was hit by a bus used his experience as motivation to start up the Bicycle Film Festival in 2001. Ten years later, the Film Festival is celebrated world-wide (check the website if you don’t believe me). The Festival kicks off on Thursday (9/21/11) at The Knockout in the Mission, and ends with a BBQ at the Rickshaw on Sunday (9/25/11). We’re very excited about watching the Bike Shorts on Saturday (9/24/11) at 2:30 – Berkeley’s own Scraped Up will be featured! Various locations throughout San Francisco. All weekend.
- Massive Bike Rally in San Francisco with Moving Planet. Join the rally to demand the end of an era of reliance on fossil fuels and support for carbon-light modes of transportation! Similar Moving Planet rallies will be occurring world-wide on Saturday, so check here to find a rally if you don’t live near SF. Justin Herman Plaza (across from Ferry Building). Saturday, September 24, 12:00p. [side note: if you're leaving from Berkeley, roll out with a phat crew at 9:00a at the Bike Station downtown]
- New Belgium Brewing’s Tour De Fat. Don’t care for movies? Apolitical? No problem - if there’s one thing we bicyclists can agree on it’s BEER. Highlights of the day include a marching band, cabaret show, parade and a Bicycling Dating Game for you car-free non-couples. Schedule listed at the link. Golden Gate Park. Saturday, September 24, 10:45a-4:45p.
Don’t let the abundance of biking social options paralyze you! Remember, you’re on a bike – you can go to all of them!
